Methodology
The Smartproxy eCommerce Index employs two distinct methodologies to deliver a comprehensive evaluation of eCommerce websites worldwide. The first component, the eCommerce Maturity Index, assesses the overall maturity of each country's eCommerce landscape. It evaluates user experience across 28 criteria in five key areas of the customer journey: Browsing, Reviewing, Investigating, Expanding, and Decision-making. To accurately reflect the local eCommerce environment, three relevant websites per country were selected based on traffic and regional significance. The user experience on these sites was then manually reviewed across the five key assessment dimensions.
The Dynamic Pricing Index complements this by measuring the prevalence and application of dynamic pricing techniques across the selected websites. This component tracks pricing changes across 12 products, allowing for an assessment of how widely dynamic pricing practices are utilized, the frequency of price changes, and the complexity of the pricing models in use. Data collection for this index was conducted over a month, focusing on 40 countries and 120 websites, with data retrieved at four-hour intervals using the Smartproxy eCommerce Scraping API.
Result
The Smartproxy eCommerce Maturity Index provides a nuanced understanding of global eCommerce maturity and dynamic pricing strategies. By covering 40 countries across all continents, it offers valuable insights into the competitive landscape, enabling businesses to make informed decisions in the dynamic global eCommerce market. The index reveals that while Europe excels in eCommerce maturity, it lags in dynamic pricing practices, which are most prevalent in countries like Turkey, the UAE, and India.
This index also serves as a powerful communication tool to showcase Smartproxy’s eCommerce scraping API on their social media channels. Achieving a strong organic visibility, the Smartproxy eCommerce Index ranks 6th for the search term 'eCommerce index,' alongside major global players such as PayPal, the UN, and S&P Global.
