Collaborating with leading biomedicine companies globally, Biomatter recently raised €6.5 million to harness the power of generative AI for enzyme design. Looking to expand their reach, Biomatter approached us to help communicate their innovations to a broader audience, including business decision-makers and potential partners. They also wanted to refresh their visual identity and website, aiming to present a more modern and credible image that would attract larger clients and support their continued growth.

To crack the case, we identified an opportunity to highlight Biomatter’s deep-tech and computational strengths. This focus was essential in differentiating them from the overused “enhanced biology” narrative, allowing us to showcase their unique approach to protein creation, which aligns with their culture of freedom, self-drive, and controlled creativity. Additionally, we recognized the importance of crafting a brand that remains flexible and relevant as Biomatter's product lines evolve, enabling adaptability across various industries and potential future pivots.
Positioning
Recognizing Biomatter's potential to redefine the biotech landscape, we crafted a strategy to position them as Protein Architects. This concept is grounded in the understanding that protein design parallels architectural principles, drawing inspiration from Sullivan’s famous axiom, 'form follows function.' By highlighting Biomatter’s innovative capacity to create entirely new proteins through their Intelligent Architecture™ platform, we shifted the narrative away from conventional approaches in the field. This positioning highlights Biomatter’s strengths in deep-tech biology and AI-driven protein design, emphasizing their leadership through publications in top journals like Nature and strong partnerships with industry leaders such as Thermo Fisher, Google, and Nvidia. By developing faster, more efficient, and cost-effective solutions, Biomatter is redefining protein development while staying adaptable to evolving market needs.
Result
As part of their transformation, the company transitioned from "Biomatter Designs" to "Biomatter," reflecting a broader vision in synthetic biology, which our design team andstudio embodied in a refreshed visual identity that captures the innovative spirit and scientific expertise of the company. Featuring wavy shapes symbolizing molecular structures, the branding embodies their essence as Protein Architects. Soft, organic colors were chosen to modernize their image and ensure that their complex innovations are presented in a way that is understandable and relatable to a broader audience, while still maintaining their cutting-edge, scientific rigor. The new website and all future communications are unified under this concept, ensuring consistency across platforms and positioning Biomatter as a leader in the biotechnology space, reinforcing their commitment to pioneering protein design and presenting their advanced science in a way that's approachable yet still targeted to a specialized audience.
