For 80 years, Žalgiris has been more than just a basketball team—it’s a brand where tradition and ambition collide. Žalgiris needed a new direction - in overall brand strategy and design - to represent its essence today, while at the same time showing due respect to its long-standing principles and history. The main requirements boiled down to attracting new young fans, appealing to national and modern sponsors and combining heritage with a contemporary challenger attitude.

Throughout its history, Žalgiris has developed a unique growth, team and leadership mentality that can help and inspire anyone to become better. It’s bigger than just physical performance, it’s a mental edge anyone can use to continuously improve and perform in any area.
Result
Outrun ourselves. In its long and celebrated existence, Žalgiris has consistently done one thing - beat any expectations or limitations while outrunning excuses, outfighting talent and outhustling bigger budgets. Focused on community and personal betterment, the team and the brand stand behind a positive message of sports mentality that anyone can relate to. With that in mind, we also re-designed Žalgiris’ identity with a minimalist approach white retaining its checkerboard roots and heritage shape. We also created a unique font called Žalgiris Sans, which embodies the club’s mentality and fighting spirit.
Impact
With the introduction of the new brand direction, the club has garnered over 5,000,000 direct impressions and earned mentions in over 30 media outlets and doubled its social media views compared to a year before. In terms of merchandise, Žalgiris Shop has experienced an uplift with a 110% year-on-year increase from September to March. Fair to say, the renewed brand has outrun itself throughout.
